Subject: 1990 Ford Mustang GT 5.0L convertible

Condition: Neglected despite and abused despite its low mileage

Requested Detail: Full paint correction and protection using CQuartz Finest (and DLUX on the ground effect body kit).

The Story: This gentlemen contacted me after seeing one of my previous work at a car show. On our initial meeting he was very doubtful that his beloved mustang could be improved without resorting to a repaint. My preliminary evaluation of the paint told me otherwise. The only may concerning point was the "dehydrated" state of the ground effect body kit and the fact that the paint in certain area (especially the gas inlet) looked "unstable". After much discussion he agreed to "give me a try". Before concluding our meeting we discussed the LSP and at first he was not interested in the newest technology. He is an older gentlemen and in all fairness he had not kept up with the latest and greatest. He also has a pretty extensive collection so in the spirit of making him a believer I pushed the issue and offered to give him some money back if he was not "THRILLED". I will admit that my ulterior motive was to get the rest of his collection .... so off we go!! The car was delivered as requested and inspected. Again he was very tentative but decided to still "give me a try".

Inspection: This is what the "sun" inspection revealed.

There was the typical mineral deposits and old dried up wax in all the nooks and crannies. Some was safe to remove and some had done it damage and remained. The car was properly taped with the lightest tape I had (due to concerned over the aged trim). PTG readings were take and averaged a HEALTHY 145 microns. What a blessing!!.

Under the T8 and LED lights, further paint defects became evident! There is nothing that detract for the gloss and reflective power of paint like oxidation and scratches and swirls. See the examples below, and in the 50/50 test spots!

The tools of choice were the Flex 3401, the GG6 w/ 3" BP and the new addition to the family, the 2" air powered DA. The pad you see on the Flex is a the Scholl Concepts 6 1/2" Orange Spider pad (which I will offer a review on)

The Process from A to Z was pretty much the same as all the other "Show and Shine", but if you are interested in the specific products used, just put a comment and I will be glad to offer a list of all the products and tools used.

The RESULTS!!!!

Awesome Claude!

Thanks Alex! I do take a TON of picture (as the angles inspire me) and then have to wean down through 300 pictures or so to spell out a story line. I am a big movie fanatic, so I guess that reflects a little bit through my picture laden Show and Shine!

Great work Claude. That looks better than new!

Thanks Todd! The owner was impressed. I only wish he had a little bigger budget to make it perfect but it was not a concourse restoration. They definitely drove that baby!

Great work on a classice Dr. Claude. Brings me back to my high school days.

You and me both brother! I kept singing Ice Ice Baby as I was working on it!

HAHA!! Rush is in my repertoire of music but no real association with a mustang 5.0 ;) I have to support my countryman don't I!?! (originally from Northern Quebec!)

I was rendered speechless at the after shots and forgot to ask , how did you get those ground effects to come back to life ? That had to be no easy task . I bought one of these 2 weeks out of High School in 88 (yes I'm that old lol ) and those ground effects AND rims were a real B*$%# to keep nice . The coating came off the rims in short order . His look great though .

thanks Doc

Daren, the rims and ground effect were in good shape but were made much better with Carpro DLUX.

Thanks for the compliment
