Hey guys,

Got a scratch in my coating. Coating was done by a professional in October, using CQuartz... the scratch you only see if you look directly at it in shade, any sun / reflection and it doesn't show at all. OF course, it passed the finger nail test it doesn't even catch slightly.

The detailer who installed it said that it is just in the coating, do you think this is possible? They said if they try to polish it out, they'll need to recoat the panel. Here's a picture.

If the scratch is only in the coating then yes, it should be able to be polished out.
...and yes, you will need to recoat the area. Polishing the coating will remove it.

There is no way to tell if the scratch is in the coating. Like all scratches polishing will either remove the or make them look better. The entire panel is going to require a polish and reapplication of the coating.

If a scratch occurs in a coating, the first step is to determine the severity of the scratch. If it is a minor scratch, it may be possible to simply buff it out using a gentle polishing compound and a soft cloth. For deeper scratches, it may be necessary to sand the affected area down to the base material and then reapply the coating. The specific steps for repairing a scratch in a coating will depend on the type of coating and the surface it is applied to. If you're unsure about how to proceed, it's best to consult the manufacturer's instructions or consult with a professional.
