View Full Version : Race Deck "Type" Flooring ?

Hi Guys,
I am going to be installing some Race Deck "type" flooring soon. I really like the look of black and white checkered. I am seriously considering this color scheme. Am I crazy for considering black knowing how it shows dirt?…Uhg! And white, which I can only assume would also show dirt crazy bad (on a garage floor).
Does anyone have this type of flooring, with either of these 2 colors in their scheme? If so please provide me with some feedback. I love the look, but is it going to be a maintenance nightmare from the color standpoint????

[emoji2][emoji2][emoji2][emoji16][emoji16][emoji12] Tadman!!!! I hope some others can give feedback on the white!! I believe black will be the worst but they clean easy and I wouldn't change my pattern for anything regardless!

White tiles are a pain to keep clean; black not so bad, actually. When they are clean though, they look AWESOME.

I will be going a different route (likely black/white VCT topped with clear epoxy) when I move on to the next iteration of my garage/shop to make maintenance far easier.

Interesting Charles! Maybe it's our Florida sand - black is the worst here.

I wouldn't change anything either buddy, your floor is stunning! I know the tiles are raised to allow for drainage, and if I remember correctly at your old place you would do your final rinse in the garage while washing sky; after taking up the floor how did the concrete underneath look (e.g. mold, mildew, or any general yuck)?

Thanks for the feedback Charles! Living in Michigan, I would expect that snow, ice, salt, etc. is tracked in. Do you find any problems (e.g. drainage, mold or mildew under the tiles)or anything else I should be aware of? Is cleaning (especially white tiles) relatively easy? How do you clean them? I was just thinking of the occasional sweeping and mopping?

Just a FYI(

Not to mention any "names" but AG originally did the "Show Car Garage" in black and white.
The black & white looked great in pictures but was a PITA to keep the white ones looking good.
http://www.autogeekonline.net/gallery/data/824/AutogeekStudioGarage005.jpg

They switched to black and red. It still looks good...but it is MUCH easier to keep looking clean.

For me I went with Sherwin-Williams Epoxy (http://s215.photobucket.com/user/merlinhd03/media/Detail/Garage/Garage1.jpg.html?sort=9&o=0). It's permanent. I just sweep or wash it with a hose.

How do these tiles hold up to water?? Does the water get underneath from washing? And are they chemical resistant say from wheel and tire cleaners?

Here is my review from L2D Doc!
http://carproforum.com/showthread.php?833-Review-GarageTrac-Flooring

I tested toward the end specifically with chemicals. Also the water runs underneath the tiles.

The Garage Trac are the same factory and everything (in Utah as I recall) as the overpriced ones from some stores - Just a name it appears.

If I remember right, you have the "gloss" tiles, correct? That might be part of the difference too...

Yes, snow/ice/etc. was a battle during the winter. I haven't seen any mold/mildew under the tiles, but I do have occasional drainage issues due to the slab not being 100% flat... there are areas that trap water under them and when walking on those areas, water will "splash" from the tile joints if there is buildup there.

Cleaning isn't too terrible, but after a while the white won't come 100% clean anymore... you'll see faint signs of staining. My cleaning regimen is to sponge mop with warm water and a rinseless wash, then follow up with my steamer on any stubborn areas. With steam though, be careful on the black tiles as you can bleach the plastic just like you can in cars.

Hey Charles,

One other question; It looks like you did the 3" edge tiles all the way around (all 4 sides), is this right? If so; do you recommend this? Why? when I talked to them over the phone the lady said "most people only put the edge tiles in front of the garage door opening"... hmm?

I only did two sides; the front side, and the side where the "pedestrian door" to the garage is so I can roll suitcases/etc. across it easily. The back edge and other side wall I didn't install edging on, and for the most part you don't see the exposed loops unless you're actively looking for them because they are just under the baseboards in my case. Just depends how your garage is laid out whether that makes sense or not.

Hey Doc, I went with the same tiles Corey has. They have raised channels underneath to allow for drainage (this can be seen in one of the pictures in his review). However they fit together tightly so not much water should actually get through. They are made by, and in the same facility as RaceDeck (which is considerably more costly). Corey’s detailed review can be found here…http://carproforum.com/showthread.php?833-Review-GarageTrac-Flooring

As to cost; I don’t think it was “too” bad. I was able to get them for $2.00/ft2 and edge pieces for $1.89/RFT. That being said I was able to do my “generously sized” 2 car garage (725ft sq) for just about $1,500. Now if I were to do my shop, YES that would be a real “SHOCKER” for sure!!
Here’s the ones I got…http://www.bigfloors.com/product-category/garage-flooring/garagetrac/

Ohh ya buddy, excited I am! Unfortunately I won't be able to start installation for a couple of weeks. Deer season here in SE Idaho opens this weekend, and Canadian goose opens next weekend. Meanwhile the brown and rainbow trout fishing continues to be absolutely on fire behind my house! The fall is an extremely exciting and busy time of year here Claude, as the outdoutdoor activities heat up! Anyway I should be able to have it installed in 2-3 weeks.

To make your geometry nightmare go away without too much difficulties, just use a stiff carboard and trace/cut to shape and then transfer to the Racedeck. MAKE SURE to make the exact location of the interlocking tabs.
