    Question Strip lighting

Ok guys, right now we are getting the new shop ready and it's time for some lighting. I was thinking about some 4ft strip lights on each side of the shop.

What bulbs etc should I be looking at getting? They have the 4 feet T12 fittings at Lowes, so I was thinking about those.. but what bulbs would produce a nice white light that is strong?

Hey Chris, I have these all around the 4 walls http://www.homedepot.com/p/Philips-4...2949/203466585. I went with the T8's (not for any special reason), I actually think the t12's may be the better choice. The 6500K are quite bright, however they put out kind of a blueish light. Looking back now I think the 500K color temp would have been a better choice. I think the 5000K puts out a more natural bright light. If I remember correctly the bulbs I got have a CRI of 85 (but not positive). I think the color temp is a bit more important to us. However a CRI of 85 or higher is also a good choice. I think if you go with the 500K t12's you may be able to get an even higher CRI. Here's a good read discussing Color Rendering Index (CRI)http://www.topbulb.com/color-rendering-index/

I know you weren't asking about other lighting, but thought I'd share this as well:

Here's what I'm using for overhead lighting, I have four of them strategically placed in combination with two T8 5000K fixtures. Believe me; they will light up some space now. They only use 105Watts of power, but are Equal to 400Watt regular Incandescent bulbs. You don’t want to look directly at them, unless you want to be temporarily blinded for a bit. (Beware, the are about 5" in diameter and hang down about 12"-14") http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Here’s what I’m using for main defect highlighting (as of recently). Thanks again Zack, these absoultely ROCK!!!… https://carproforum.com/showthread.ph...=1913#post1913

    Give this a read:

Definitely don't go with T12, they are actually being phased out altogether at this point, and will eventually be difficult to find replacements for.

Wow GREAT article, thanks for posting it!! Thanks for the insight (pun intended)!! I thought maybe I had heard somewhere last year the T12's would be going away sometime in the future, but can't remember where I heard it or if I put much stock into it. Hearing it from you confirms it for me, thanks again!

I have to sub to this thread. I've been looking for the holy grail of lighting project, but although I have good options I am still not 100% satisfied, not that any of us OCD detailers can ever be lol!
