    Coatings on Fresh Paint

Is there a specific amount of time to wait before coating fresh paint? I just got my Wife's car back from the body shop and would like to coat it with cquartzUK eventually.

I'd wait at least 30 days before touching the new paint, almost the same suggestion when it comes to polishing...

Does that apply to new cars as well? Or no because they are baked?

Technically it's 1-7 days depending on paint and how it's cured (per carpro) but I personally like the 30 day idea to be safe.

I coated some test panels 48 hours after I had them painted and all went great.

I've heard rumors of a 60 to 90 day gas out period for painted surfaces.

I coated a car with cquartz classic 7 days after it was painted. It's been 6 weeks since then with no ill effects. Currently waiting to coat another with cquartz uk which was painted a week ago but playing it safe and waiting until December.

When dealing with refinished panels I tend to either follow the suggestion of the painter, and/or consult the P-sheet supplied by the paint manufacturer (if the specific paint system used is known). Just not worth the liability to me on a customer's car, if something were to occur I don't want it to be the fault of the coating.

New cars, no need to wait as the finish is fully thermally cured by the time it leaves the paint shop.
