American Airlines: Free Name Change
Airlines Typically Do not Permit Any Name Changes After a Ticket is Reserved, with the exception of veritably minor spelling corrections or american airlines name change policy ( see How to Change a Name on an Airline Ticket Due to Marriage). The reason for this is not logistical but rather profitable airlines do not want bookmakers buying up tickets ahead of time and dealing them at a profit close to the time of trip. By rigorously administering a no name change policy, airlines insure that they, rather than bookmakers, capture the value of advanced priced tickets vended near to the date of trip. With the pandemic, it's been possible with many U.S. airlines to use airlines' travel vouchers obtained from cancelled tickets to book a new ticket for a different person. But it still hasn't been possible to change the passenger name for an existing, uncanceled ticket.

Thnx for sharing it. That's good to know. We had problems after I changed my name after the wedding. But our honeymoon tickets were booked in my old name, which caused some misunderstanding.

Thanks for sharing this info on American Airlines, allowing free name changes! It's good to know that there are exceptions to their name change policy, especially for minor corrections or name changes due to marriage. And with the pandemic, it's great to hear that some airlines are being more flexible with travel vouchers and booking for a different person. I'll definitely keep this in mind for future travels. By the way, I'm new to this forum and just wanted to say what's up! I recently discovered some killer deals on cheap business class flights, and it's been a game-changer for my travel game. I mean, who doesn't love the luxury of business class at a fraction of the price?
