1956 Porsche 356 Speedster

Work in progress. Car has 25 years of swirls and love marks since it was restored by RUF in Germany. The owner is a local car guy and acquaintance of mine.

This car is one of his many Porsche cars and I had been after him for a while to let me have it in.

All in all because the car is so old and heavily defected, is soft single stage paint and all original since restoration (including some rust/petina here and there) we decided a full 100% paint correction is just not likely going to happen, but damnit, im going to try!

I've resorted to some disassembly of the car to ease the 3 step correction process around some of the lights and under the badges and etc. Sure makes it easier with no badges in the way!! So shapely and curvaceous that a 6" polisher can't really be used anywhere except the doors on the lower half.

This one is a labor of love, a great restoration of this beauty is long overdue and it's in great hands!

Stay tuned into this thread and my fb/Instagram pages for updates!

Superior Image Auto Services

1st step is heavy cutting and spot sanding. Scholls S3xxl gold on a mf cutting pad. 2 passes of 4 to 5 sweeps each with a 2sweep low speed finish on the 2nd pass.

2nd step will be a polish pass to remove micro swirls and any haze or holograms left from the first step. Seems the Carpro polish pad or Rupes yellow pads and Scholls S3xxl glosses up pretty damn well. I may even go to Scholls S20+.

3rd step will be a finish polish/jeweling with Essence and Carpro gloss pads. This should jazz up the thing pretty darn well and then coatings will be applied everywhere possible.

Rupes machines are being used the whole time and pad changes are happening about every 3rd section. Scangrip lighting and virgin towels round out my gear for this one.

My hope is to blow the owner away enough to convince him to take it to Telluride next year for Cars and Colors and win the International Concours! Maybe even a few other shows as well!!

Any input, comments or advise is always welcome!

Switched up my method. Went to the Scholls spider sandwich pad with the s3xxl. Cut is the same, maybe quicker, but gloss is much MUCH better.

Though the pad fill with gunk quickly. But when they do load up I'm not seeing the typical haze left behind like on a mf cutting pad.

Making progress. This car has so many heavy defected panel that 2 cutting passes and spot corrections are taking a fair amount of time.

However it's worth it for this old German hotrod!!!

More progress. Paint is very VERY defected. Lots of work to remove as many flaws as possible.

Scholl Concepts products are making the job so easy. Love the spider sandwich pad and S3 Gold together! Leaves an incredible gloss, damn near perfect finish in one step with more practice.

Pretty sure I've found my go to system I'll use from this project on. Carpro pads and polishes and Scholl pads and polishes are amazing!
