2010 Toyota Tundra White Paint

I have some questions about the paint on my dad's truck. I believe it is single stage paint with light oxidation. I was planning to polish and seal it. I removed some old pine tar from the hood, clayed, and polished the small section with Essence. After seeing that, he asked if I could coat it like I did his Honda. I was reading the Cquartz product information and saw that it is not always compatible with SS paints. Can someone verify the white paint on Tundras at that time and it's compatibility with Cquartz?

Hey Smitty,

My 2015 Tundra has the Finest applied. The Pro who did it didn't see any paint on the correcting pad when he did it.
With that said, I'm pretty sure that the First and Second generation White Tundras are indeed SS paint. There was recently a discussion on the Tundra forum I belong to and some guys who own body shops confirmed it.

I'd hit Corey up to get the answer you are looking for.

Indeed the 2010 white Tundra is most likely single stage paint. You can confirm by putting some polish onto a MF towel and rubbing it into the paint. If you get white paint transfer onto the towel, then indeed it is ss paint. If it is ss paint there is a chance durability of CQ will be compromised. It will not hurt the paint in anyway to apply CQ. But there is no way to be sure if the expected durability will be achieved or not on ss paints. Ss paints are more porous then cc paints and all are different. I have coated several ss paints and I'd say my success rate for achieving 2 years durability is about 70% .

Thank you. It was the look of the oxidation and the way the polishing pad looked when I cleaned and polished the area with the tar that made look into this. It was white residue. Good to know its only the durability in question. Would polishing with Essence possibly help with the porousness issue?

It's definitely possible, but not 100% for sure. To many variables and differences with ss paints.

...I believe it is single stage paint with light oxidation.

Thoughts...When you polished the small section did you get white transfer on your pad?
What type of pad did you use? Try Essence with a black foam pad (to make it obvious).
Looking forward to hearing your results...

It was a red, light finishing, pad, It appeared to turn it pink. Not sure I have any black pads left but I have some dark towels and maybe a black applicator. I plan to do a small test tonight to verify as suggested. I will post a pic.

It is more than likely single stage. I just corrected my uncles 2008 FJ (white color) and it was indeed single stage. Saw color transfer on the pad and on my gloves.

I'm having issues posting pictures and using tapatalk to reply. It is definitely SS. I used a dark towel with Essence by hand and there was definite transfer. I am pleased at what Essence can do though. It looks like the oxidation is light enough that I will be able to do the whole vehicle without heavy compound. Now we just need to decide if we are going to roll the dice with cquartz or just use my "go to" sealant. I get 9 months to 1 year out of it when cared for properly and it performs very close to a coating. The only downside to my test spots... now he is in a hurry. He didn't think it looked that bad and just wanted it sealed because the paint was flat. He saw the spot I put the Essence on and said, "You mean my whole truck can look that good? Well, get busy". At least he buys all of my detailing supplies. Yes I will work for detailing supplies. :D

If you have reload you can just top with that if you're in a time constraint. Or any sealant.

If you have time and is paying you then coat it.

It really boils down to preference. Try the sealant first and see what happens. The sealant sounds pretty good since your getting the longevity.

Hope to see the truck some day.
