As always Merlin...

Could you share what you did, technique and speeds, between the Meg's pads and Car Pro's to achieve your results?

One of the many things I like about the NEW RUPES BigFoot Mark II is the OPM chart on the back of the handle.
Rupes-OPM-chart.jpg

Meguiars recommends that their microfiber discs be run at a speed of 3800 OPM for best results.
I've found that when the OPM settings are correct I have no disc issues caused by running too fast.

For the Carpro Flash pads I kept the machine at the same OPM speeds and I was happy with the end result.

Technique:
Minimal down pressure, a few small pea sized drops of Essence & working it thoroughly for a complete break down.
I found, if worked correctly, any gummy residue that could be caused my over loading the pad is virtually eliminated.
For the CP flash pads, a nice slow 1" per sec. arm speed, keeping the pad flat rendered a very crisp and glossy finish.
Another item I like about the CP gloss pad is the beveled edge. This allows me to work the edge close without fear.

Being a convertible top splatter was a concern. I was able to work the Gloss pad close to the trim & I had no splatter.

Awesome. How soon after essence can you apply the sealant?

After the paint was polished and any residue was removed I may have waited 30-45 minutes.
This was probably not intentional as I was working on other parts of the car during that time.

Thank you Merlin.

I had put a deposit on another polisher that is on its way out. After further reading and hearing that it lacks the torque of the new Rupes model, I may change my mind. I'm in the market for a 15 mm unit.

You are confusing me here. You keep referencing the CP Flash pads and then the CP Gloss pads but you description at the beginning of the post only states that you used the CP Gloss pads. Did you use both?

My bad...yes, good catch!
It should have been...
I only used two types of pads

Megs DMC5 mf discs - Correction
Carpro 5" Gloss Pad - Jeweling

I did not use the CP Flash pads on this vehicle.
Thanks for catching that.

No problem Merlin. I am working on my Porsche right now as well. I tried using Fixer with ever type of pad I own and because there were so much deep scratches and swirls, I had to abandon Fixer and jump straight to Megs 105 with CP Flash pads. Needless to say, that combo made short work of those defects and am now starting the polishing with the new CP Polishing pads and Reflect then to finish it off with Essence with the CP Gloss pads. So I have a question for you, what do you do to clean up any dusting that happens and how do you remove masking tape residue? By the way, flawless work again. Great job.

So I have a question for you, what do you do to clean up any dusting that happens
and how do you remove masking tape residue?

I have some Megs M105 on the shelf but I only use with a rotary as a last resort.
Ever since I switched to Meguiars M101 and CP Flash pads for heavy correction I have not looked back.
You can however put a couple of drops of M205 or D300 on the pad with M105 to greatly reduce dusting.
They say to increase work time with M101 lightly mist with water. (This equals Big Time Splatter - You'll hate life!)

If I could only have two polishes they would be Meguiars M101 and Carpro Essence.

"I like to polish paint. I hate to detail." Put a beach towel on the windshield. Cover the wiper cowl. Cover anything that can get splattered.
M105 spatter (especially wet) is a bear to clean out of wiper cowls etc. I use IPA, mineral spirits and a cold beer. (Yes, the beer is for me)

I don't use masking tape. I really like the red CarPro Automotive Masking Tape.

Two things I do with the tape for removal.
1) I always pull at a 45 degree angle rather than straight back to remove the tape. There are a couple of reasons for this...
2) To make tape removal easier and less residue I'll press the sticky part of the tape on my clothing once or twice before applying to the paint.
Carpro Eraser with a BOA towel helps remove any remaining tape glue residue.

By the way, flawless work again. Great job.
Thank you. It's a love and a passion.

Hey Merlin, what shape was the car in when you got her? Also I would be very interested in seeing your polishing technique. Any chance on a video so we can see a master at work?

1) Not too bad. there were a couple a places that he had concern.
There was a fairly bad section on the drivers front fender.
He was not sure how it got there. Possibly a ladies purse?
All the scratches were gone and he could not find any of them at all.

2) I'm a big fan of the Yo-Yo method (GRIN). No, I really would not correct paint this way. Smooth Rupes!

3) Sadly, I've been asked before for videos.
I've been told I have the perfect face for radio. (sigh)
Maybe someday if I ever get up enough nerve.

I may have the same vehicle/owner in for another detail.
I'm not sure what his needs are but I will see him Friday.

If you're looking to make a minor correction or need to address something specific about a 2013 Porsche 911 Carrera S, just let me know what needs adjusting! If you're referring to general info about the car.
