I can't figure out what is going when I apply Cquartz. I have washed the car, Clayed, buffed, used eraser. After applying cquartz and then buffing off after about 5mins. When In direct sunlight I can see grease marks. I can't figure what I am doing wrong. It does flash very quickly. The temps are in mid 60s as well. Here is a pic of what it looks like.

Since these are your first posts, :welcome:

I've had something similar happen once and found that using a CarPro Boa, for my final wipedown, helped avoiding those. Your suede MF towel may have been saturated/rejecting the carriers and you end up smearing them rather than removing them. Just a thought!?!

Other thing to consider is maybe you applied too thick??

I might. Just feel like it wasn't putting much down so I did dab the applicator a lot. I will try that. I mean this stuff is great though. Water beading is awesome. I just want to start offering this service but I am testing on my escalade first and want to get it right before offering it. Thanks for the info.

For clarification, are you using CQ "Original" or CQUK? I ask because in your post it only reads Cquartz and application/removal is different for each.

Sorry I should have clarified. But it is original.

I would also guess that you probably applied it a bit too thick. Possibly even wiped it off a bit too soon based on the thickness of application. Claude is spot on in regards to removing it with a BOA. Just remember to immediately soak your towel in a hot water/APC mix immediately after or toss the towel, as the coating will cure on the towel making it unusable again.

Oh one other thing crosses my mind, I am assuming you have the new formula? Does it have a red sticker on it?

Yeah I wondering that as well. Just with a few drops on the applicator it didn't look like it was spreading. Also noticing it flash really fast. But thanks for the info. I might give another panel a try with about 3-4 drops

So how would you go about removing those smears? I have the same thing on a car I did this week.

For CQ in the silver bag: Sounds like to thin if only a few drops on a panel. Place one line down the applicator and drag it across the middle of a fender size area and the spread it out from there. If it's ever not applying wet add more.

Wipe off once there is some resistance but before it becomes difficult.

It will remove those easily with a soft pad and Reflect.

Whichever panels are affected do this, wipe off polish and use Eraser and then apply another coat to leave a smooth coated finish.

Thanks, Corey. I actually purchased some Reflect and a blue Lake Country pad to take care of it. Hopefully it turns out awesome!

I had the same thing happen to me with CquartzUK. I followed Coreys youtube video on application and everything. I tried applying thinner but still had the same thing. I probly saw the smears/grease marks easier cause I have soft black paint. I ended up just using a microfiber to remove rather than the suede cause I just felt like I was spreading it. The microfiber worked better but I still saw some smears here and there. I ended up leaving it and the smears had gone away by the next day.

You are describing my general coating process. I remove the bulk of the carriers with a suede MF towel and finish with a Boa. I rarely have smears using that technique and as you described the carriers do eventually evaporate.

As always the responses from the Finest Installers are spot on. I'm with Corey in thinking that maybe enough product wasn't used. The less product you use the faster it will flash. FWIW, in my experience that even if I apply too much product it will still level out as long as you don't wait too long to take it off.

UK can be finicky. I've been using it for over two years, different times of year, different temps and humidity and not once has UK ever acted like it does in Corey's video. Now please don't take this as a negative comment towards Corey or UK because it's not. You have to take into consideration that UK was formulated to work in much lower temps and is really sensitive to humidity.

IMO CQUK is the BEST coating that is available to the general public but there is a learning curve.

As previously mentioned a BOA towel is the absolute best way to level and CQ product.
