High spots

Hey guys I was curious what your opinions were on leaving high spots of CQUK or regular CQ on the paint. Would leaving high spots harm the paint/clear coat in any way or will they just abrade over time as the rest of the coating will? The reason I ask is cause I just applied CQUK and got some high spots on the front bumper and fenders and I did not want to waste that product I applied and have to reapply more CQUK. I'd rather just leave it to save time and product but if it will affect anything I'd like to know before it becomes a problem. Thanks in advance for your input guys, Tim

Hi Tim, as to leaving high spots on the paint; this is something I have never done. Don't get me wrong, I've definitely induced some over the years, but I've always removed them. As to your question though; No, leaving them will not "harm" the paint in any way (other than the cosmetic blemish induced). Yes it will abrade away over time, but most likely more than 2 years will have passed unless some sort of mechanical abrasion is performed prior.

As Tad pointed out, you would not want to intentionally leave high spots. They don't harm the protection and all but do definitely detract from the visual enhancement you are seeking by coating your car (in addition to the enhanced protection etc...)

IF you were to have a high spot, and IF you chose to leave it.... it would abrade over time but the abrasion is pretty uniform on the paint (from washing etc....), so the protected surface without the high spot would thin fairly equally to the section with the high spot. A high spot is sub-microns in thickness, so it is not a "mountain" on top of the coating ;)

I haven't experienced such yet, but was wondering if a second application would help some, and lessen, or alleviate such? Anybody test such?

Actually Mark, it would not help but amplify the problem. A second application would add additional thickness to the high point and would darken the spot even more. Ask me how I know :)

To have a uniformity of color you need a uniformity of product.
