On top of existing coat?

Hi,

My friend's car has already applied a Korean coat (pomponazzi) for a year.
That was applied on all paint/glasses/plastics/wheel. However, the effect of coat is getting worse now as he parks outdoor 24x7.

Now he wants to apply CQUK + DLUX on top.

Do we need to remove the coating first?

I think he could use ceriglass to polish glasses and reflect to polish paint.l, such that the coating can be removed?

How about other parts like trims/plastics/wheels/rubber?

Thanks.

As cooter says, bonding will be greatly compromised!

DLUX over CQ UK doesnt makes sense either, as DLUX is intended for plastic and metals, not paint.

Since the existing coating is already failing, i would start stripping it with a strong acidic, high alkaline Ph APC, followed by a 2 step polish (if needed), a methodical paint cleansing (to ensure proper bonding) and a fresh layer of CQ UK!

Good luck. Let us know how it went.

Dick Lai,

Is the coating a year old already? Just a suggestion but have your friend add some APC to his wash soap and see if that cleans the coating of its impurities. I, and many others, will add the APC to our soaps. This will aid in cleaning the coating and restoring its characteristics. Do that only if the coating is fully cured, normally 30 days after application.

Thanks all. we will definitely remove the old coating first.

As the coating is a year old already, I will follow the suggestions here to use APC to wash the car a few times and see the effect.

Do you have any APC product suggest for this purpose?

Thanks.

Megs. D 101, C.G. All-in-One, OOOORRRRR, You can use Car Pro Iron X snow foam in a Foam Cannon, if you have one. I use it straight out of the bottle with the cannon.
