Can someone please recommend a good beginner pad for compounding and polishing/finish before a cquartz application? any help/guidance would be great! thank you in advance!

Well, that all depends. Each paint reacts differently and you need to see which pad/ correcting material works best for you. How much correcting do you need to do?
Can you post some more info about what your working on and how much correcting needs to be done?
Pics would also help...

Let's start with the basics...

What machine brand/model?

What size backing plate (5", 6" etc.)

again being I recently just started using a DA polisher, I went w the griots garage 6"random orbital. my plan is to go w a more advance one in the future but for now ill use this. I have two personal cars that need minimal correction. both being 2017 hyundai (min; sonata turbo/hers; sante fe turbo) looking to prep and coat before fall/winter gets here in NY

First, The GG 6" DA is a good solid starting machine.
The first thing I would do is get a 5" DA Backing plate
For a newbie (& pros) I feel the 5" BP handles better.

Second, Choose 5" pads to go with the 5" backing plate.

Third, What needs to be done before applying CQuartz?
Do you have a lot of swirls? Does it need compounding?
Will a fine polish resolve minimal fine swirls/scratches?
Is the finish swirl free & you want to add gloss & shine?

Sadly, there is no "One Size Fits All" in pads and polishes.

The answer to question 3 will guide the pads/compounds/polish suggestions.
Different pads do different things from coarse compounding to fine polishing.
As you can see there are many choices in 5" pads -> 5"-5 1/2" Polishing pads

no swirls really.....doesnt even need a compound...just a polishing to remove the reload. just looking to prep the car before I coat the car w cquartz

thanks for the link too!

In that case I might suggest CarPro Essence: EXTREME Gloss Primer

  • Primes surface for CQuartz or Reload
  • Produces Extremely High Gloss
  • Semi-permanent filling capabilities
  • Adds layer of SiO2 Quartz protection
  • Use with D/A, Rotary, or by Hand

A couple of pads
2) Meguiars Microfiber Cutting Disc - 5"
2) CarPro Gloss Pad 5"

Do you have compressed air?

Pads must be completely primed with Essence before use.
After priming use very little 3-4 pea sized drops per panel
Clean pads often, sometimes twice on each panel.
Then reapply 3-4 pea sized drops of Essence.
Use in shade. The paint surface MUST BE COOL.
Wipe clean using the 2 Face (No Lint) towels
I would not strip off Essence with IPA or Eraser.
Apply CQuartz on top of the clean, wiped off surface.
