Rupes backing plate velcro failure?!?

This is my Rupes 5" backing plate which developed a bad case of "velcro-itis". Has this ever happened to any of you guys?

Was in the process of polishing using a Meg MF cutting disc and all of a sudden felt a wobble. I've had a few MF velcro failure but this was different. On inspection I noticed that the backing plate velcro was the problem, not the velcro off the MF disc.

This 5" backing plate has seen some intense sessions and never failed so what gives?

I just replaced mine last week as it was starting to lift a little on one edge...not as bad as yours though. Mine was one of the first units from KB and is almost 2 years old now so I'm not worried about it.

The concerning part is that it failed during use with no prior signs :/

Haven't had any issues with my 5", but I did have to replace the plate on my LHR75 because it became warped... I have a feeling I probably overheated it.
