Show and shine...of a different kind

So I won't repeat the story I shared in the "Hello" sub-forum about what I do, but I did want to share some work here,

Since these photos I have moved on from Menzerna and just purchased some Scholl's from STL to try. I'll be curios how they compare. They were super helpful and awesome to deal with!

These are military tube testers from the 1940's and 50's used to test audio tubes in high end audio amplifiers. I restore the old testers for fun. This is actually quite delicate work so as not to strip any of the silk screening and military markings on them (for instance look at the red cartouche stamp on the 4th and 5th pictures).

Amazing before and after!

Just a Side note/Tip:
I use empty Talenti Gelato jars to store my 3" pads.
I used to stack them on top of each other but I was unhappy when I knocked over the stack.
Putting them in the jars keeps them clean and much easier if I knock over the stack.

Did I mention the Talenti Gelato has lots of flavors and it's pretty darn good!

Do you use 2" pads or 1" pads?

Thanks Merlin!

It's a fine balance between restoration and not loosing the markings.

Yeah - I'm really busy with work and other things, so the only time in my life my brain slows down a bit and relaxes is when I'm working with cleaning the tube testers and doing the tube audio stuff.

Great idea on the Gelato. I've been using a shoebox sized clear container from The Container Store with great luck.

I use the Griots G13 3" for the big panels and my older Flex Kompact 3 set up for 1" when I do the inside of the lids or on the front around the latches. I really don't like Flex nor its ergonomics (I hate the power switch), but having the 1" size is important. I'm going to sell off Flex 3401 as it's just too large and heavy for what I am doing now.

I've ordered some Sholl's stuff to try and am looking forward to that possibly replacing the Menzerna I've used for years.

I will say the Menzerna Pro Cut is a serious step forward over the FGC 400 IMO. I actually compared them back to back recently.

My container trick for 1” pads is prescription pill bottles from the pharmacy. When I went I took a 1” pad and they found a pill bottle that it fit in. They gave me the pill bottles for free.
