I did this customer's previous truck with a consumer grade coating about a year ago and he was so thrilled that when he traded his truck the first thing he did was to call me to set up an appointment. He told me over the phone that he had purchased the same exact truck, in the same exact color, and that he was waiting on wheels and tires to bring it to me. So we made an appointment and discussed what he had in mind for me to do to the truck.

The Game Plan:
- Polishing
- Paint Coating
- Hard plastic Coating
- Window Coating

I told him that I could not quote without seeing the truck because it is BIG and BLACK, but considering that he had less than 3000 miles on the odometer that it should be a simple process and should be relatively easy for me to fit it into his budget, to which he replied that he did not have a budget and that I was commissioned to just do it right! We discussed consumer vs. Pro grade coatings and to be honest he was not listening to all the "regurgitation" so I just decided what I was going to do LOL!, and he was happy with that ;)

The truck came to my shop and looked great from about 15 feet away, then the sun hit it and I was shocked. I washed and decontaminated the vehicle, brought it in to the shop and inspected it with the "no lie" lights

I did a test spot and was SHOCKED at how finicky the paint was. I tried 2 different machine, a total of 4 different pads (from different manufacturer) and 3 different cutting compound, ALL results in good correction but MAJOR DA haze. The test spot was then hit 3 different pads combined with 2 different finish polish and after close to an hour of tinkering I finally had my process. This should be a good "word to the wise" to ALWAYS quote with a follow up warning that it is all depending on the more thorough inspection and test spot

Polishing was done with the Rupes 21, LC flat blue pad and SF4000

The "no-lie" lights were used to inspect, a sun inspection was done and then the truck was coated with CQuartz Finest (and baked)

Thanks for looking! Feel free to ask questions, comment suggestions etc... If you are interested in a more in-depth description of the steps, I will be glad to do a write up to accommodate those interested in more than just the pretty pictures ;)

Oh..... I did forget to mention that all hard plastic were coated with DLUX and the glass received a nice layering of CQuartz Forte!

We have right at 23 hrs on the exterior. Interior to be done at a later time.

Thanks for the positives guys!

Prudent advice Claude.

What a beautiful job. That paint looks like black chrome.

Wish some dealers could see this kind of work before devilering a brand new vehicule to their customers.

Great work and time saving tip!

Beautiful work. I wish I could get the black paint on my Tahoe to shine like that.

Sent from my phone when I am supposed to be doing something else.

Thanks Steve! It did look pretty amazing and did many double take myself. I will admit though that taking a picture of that beast in the middle of the day was a CHALLENGE. The reflections were killing the automatic metering.

Thanks! Dealers would not care because they make the same money off of unsuspected customers. BUT one day we may see a trend of customers saying "You need to knock off $1500 off this purchase because I will have to bring it to a professional detailer to get it properly prepped and protected". Until then dealers just laugh all the way to the bank at the expense of the customers they claim to help.

From experience Smitty, Tahoe paint is much less finicky than this paint, so you can easily get your tahoe to look like this
