This client called after finding me from the finest website. He just bought this as a certified Mercedes, but he said it did not look as good as he thought it should.plus he wanted the best protection he could get.after washing,we went over the entire car and found a few problems! The driver side had evidence of filler in a few spots, overspray in the shuts, tape lines etc. the hood had a crack near the gunsight with evidence of filler. All paint measurements were at least double factory measurements, except where they buffed to much and they were 2.0 mils less! It was time to walk away! He has a meeting with the area rep Thursday.

Those are some crazy scratches. Looks like he will be getting into a different vehicle. Hopefully he will bring that one to you.

19 mils! Wow!

Just talked to him,the dealer told him when they certified it,they measured the paint and found no problems? This should be an interesting meeting! LOL!

19mils... holy crap!

I doubt VERY much they measure paint thickness as part of their certification. I'd be surprised if they even have a thickness gauge. You could tell him to call the next closest Merc place and see if paint thickness is one of their certified points to check also.

Follow up, dealer agreed with my findings.however it does not equal 10 percent of the vehicle value,so they told him tough, you bought a used car. Sad!

That will not fly with MBUSA. He needs to go straight to MB themselves. MOST Certified MB are held to quite a high standard, so if they hear of a dealer doing this, that dealer will more then likely have to pay a hefty premium. I would tell him to call MBUSA directly and let them know of the issues he is having.

Not a good situation at all, and not what Mercedes is known for.
