Why do some coatings have a "darkening effect" i have nktices it with CQuartz UK

My basic understanding of what would cause this is that less light is being reflected back to my eyes

If less light is being reflected, wouldn't this be a negative product attribute?

I have seen a video where a coating is applied and the surface looks darker to me, but when tested with a glossmeter the reflectivity went up

How is this possible?

It was suggested that the Titanium Dioxide in CQuartz UK is responsible

I thought Titanium Dioxide was white?

It's not that less light is being reflected which is why a glossmeter shows UK to have a significant increase in gloss even though you can visually see it is a richer, darker finish. It is not titanium oxide (in my understanding) that's causing the darkening but a combination of the thickness and the combined ingredients working in unison.

Water has a darkening effect. That's what people are after right....... "That wet look" so props to coatings that can add that look and give great protection.
