cquartz finest problems?

hi all -

i had my car coated in cquartz finest and am trying to solve a mystery that my local detailer can't solve and neither can i. after washing the car with reset shampoo and drying, film appears in certain areas that is waxy, greasy, and filmy looking all at the same time. it doesn't come off with an additional wash and the drying process doesn't rid it.

what does rid it, though, albeit only somewhat (thankfully most of it, though) is ultima's waterless wash plus+. which is all fine and i would assume it to be soap buildup or perhaps a quirk associated with cquartz finest -- i don't know -- the disconcerting bit is, though, that when the car is wet the same spots/streaks/marks appear and that's going to be quite the eyesore when the rainy season comes around.

does anyone know if this is a cquartz finest quirk related to perhaps the wash that i'm using (carpro's reset)? or does anyone have any suggestions?

corey (head of carpro in north america) was actually kind enough to speak with me on the phone and was to set me up with a detailer in san diego who was gracious enough to speak with me as well, although i recently relocated from carlsbad, california, where my parents live, to de luz, temecula, california, to my parents' winter home, to be closer to work and so san diego proper not around the block. it'd be worth it, i suppose because the problem areas are becoming larger and larger and more difficult to handle. i just don't want to pay to have the job done again when it seems as though it wasn't at all done right the first time.

anyhow, anyone with any suggestions, i'd be really appreciative as i'm clueless and this is my baby i'm talking about!

oh, i wanted to add that i suppose i could add pictures, although since i just finished washing it and dealing with this entire mess and i cringe whenever i have to wash it again as i spend wayyyy more time than i should (as i'm doing the washing myself now because the detailer doesn't know how to handle the situation as it really is out of the ordinary) and i really used to enjoy washing my car -- this one happens to be new. ugh, pictures to come in about a week to a week and a half unless someone has some input (which i'm hoping for, honestly) as to how the situation can be remediated.

another tidbit - the streaks/spots/areas of concern are around and/or extend from the door handles, the mirrors, the gas cover -- basically any area that would have dripped during the application process.

also note that when i picked up my car from the authorized detailer who installed the product, it was wet and i had read all over cquartz finest's site not to wash or wet the car immediately after the product has been installed so as to not interfere with the curing process. i don't know if that makes a difference, i just need to add as much information as possible to possibly gain some insight into what is going on.

Hi David, thank you so much for following up with whats going on! Typically I would say take if Reset is not solving this strange oily situation you describe then take it to your installer and ask them to fix the issue. However, obviously this may pose a problem being relocated now. SO, I'd like to chat some more tomorrow (or tonight is fine as well if your a night owl). I already looked up your relocation on the map and I'm just trying to jog my mind on your original installer.

The phenomena you are describing is not something I have heard of elsewhere and I would LOVE if you could snap a couple pictures in focus for me and email them to the address I gave above. I would also like to talk to your local detailer to find out what he is applying to the vehicle. If using Reset to wash this is exactly what would usually solve an issue if he is using some lower level or cheap wash but sounds like you ARE using Reset.

SO, please email me those images ([email protected]) and give me a time that is good for me to call you after I see them. And of course you can call me anytime at all.

Yes, I won't go into the whole thing but my take on this part of it is there were some high spots left by the original installer. A different detailer not related to us attempted some polishing with something on those areas and cut into the coating creating this different affect in those areas.

no, actually, my detailer, when asked for specifics prior to taking the vehicle to wes, stated that there was no polishing done, but rather only glaze placed on top of a number of problematic areas. i believe this guy as he has been taking care of my vehicles for quite some time. that, and he stated quite honestly that he wasn't comfortable trying to remedy the problems of a coating that he wasn't familiar with and thus advised that i take it to a different authorized installer. furthermore, the car looked no different (read: no worse) after my local detailer washed the car and applied a light glaze than it did prior after subsequent washings.

wes will be able to explain in much more detail on the happenings should he wish, and the original installer should really not be installing this product. i'll leave names out, although corey and/or wes may describe in detail as much as they wish. that said, i'm rather certain that wes has updated corey on the very poor application by the local authorized (as of now) installer. there is no problem with the product, the problem, rather, lies with the some of the installers who have been given authorization to apply the product prematurely.

i took my car to wes today who was super professional, very detail-oriented, customer-service based, and competent! the car will be picked up tomorrow morning and i'm positive that i'll have nothing but great things to say about the remediation of the numerous problems left by the original installer.

Thanks David, Wes explained everything to me in detail and provided a variety of images to me as well. I would like to apologize from the bottom of my heart for the issues caused by your original installer. A huge thanks to Wes for handling things correctly! We are grateful to have many of the very best detailers in the world like Wes as Finest installers and horrified that you did not have the experience you should have from the start.
 
I just got off the phone with Wes and in my eyes is is certainly the best go-to CQuartz Finest installer on the West Coast. I'm pretty sure whoever you went to before will be dealt with by Corey as all Finest Installers are the cream of the crop, however as with any business some slip through the cracks. I'm sure that if that person/company doesn't meet the standards then they will be struck off the 'Finest Installers list'. Finest is the most exclusive coating in the world and is actually the hardest coating in the world to become an installer for. So rest assured your car will be taken care of by the best... and keep us updated!

i've heard from numerous people regionally as well as nationally (via internet forums) that wes is, indeed, extremely talented. i can't wait to get my car back!

thanks, again, to the very supportive network of authorized installers! corey and wes, of course, have been amazingly prompt to address all issues -- refreshing after a not-so-refreshing introduction to finest.
 
as expected, the car was delivered in beautiful condition by wes this morning! he kindly took the time to explain the correction processes as well as how to care for the vehicle should i wash it myself in between periodic professional detailing. additionally he provided for samples of the products that he used to wash the car sans water. he truly is one of fine character as is corey.

thank you to all involved in remediating the situation! i am so glad to have my car back in excellent condition. :)

I'm THRILLED to hear all is well for you again (although I had zero doubt once I knew you were going to visit Wes) We are (and on a personal note I am) grateful to be able to work with him. Wowza!! Now that is proper!. To the average eye this is beautiful, but to pro-installers who know what they are looking at...... this is eye candy! That paint is wet looking and as you may know, you can't hide anything from the sun ;)

I sure hope Wes takes the time to do a Show 'N Shine!
