Dlux on rubberized trim

So my understanding with applying Dlux to rubberized exterior trim is that it does not have to be levelled and excess removed after application due to the porous nature. But non-porous trim would have to be levelled and excess removed.
Is this correct?
And when applying do I have to tape off either sides of the trim (glass and paint)?
I’m hoping to apply with a steady hand as that would be a lot of tape prep. What do you all do for installing Dlux on trim in this regard?
Thank you.

If you are able to apply it evenly with a perfect appearance then it does not need to be leveled. Generally that will only be possible on overly porous materials like plastic and some rubber. No, you do not need to tape anything off. Just wipe off high spots if you make them.
