Introducing CarPro Essence!!!!

I just used Carpro Essence...if it was a woman I'd be in love!!!

I used to say...

I'm still a big fan of Megs M101 for compounding but for finishing...
to remove light swirls, micro-marring and add tons of clarity and gloss,

Carpro Essence is a winner!

Not that my opinion matters, since I'm the new guy, but here it goes for now. I need more time with this product...that is of course if Merlin let's me. So here's my take.

Shine and gloss is an A+ - this was tested on a black car. I'm sold on this particular part of the product.

Compounding is where I need more time to give a grade. Some parts of the black car cut like d300 and m205, plus left a super gloss all at the same time. However, other parts of the car did not cut. To be fair 90 percent of this lightly micro swirled car looked great afterwards. Merlin went after two scratches and this is where I was unimpressed, but I certainly am not speaking for him as he is the expert and I am the student just learning. They were not deep in my opinion and we even over used essence just to be sure we had enough to correct. No cigar on those two scratches. We had some other issues with other minor scratches, but again overall yes this is a good product that saves time.

Left smudges behind that were difficult to remove in some spots. They were removed, but required more time than I wanted to put into it.

Amount of product required to complete car - B. the 4 door sedan mid size car took 1/2 bottle (Sema size) to complete.

Price - this is debateble. cost per ounce is high, but the benefits such as time and gloss bring it back down.

Merlin is way more knowledgeable than I ever will be, and has more products for detailing than a woman has shoes in a closet. Anybody who reads my review should put minimal weight into what my thoughts were. Again, I'm new. Really really new to this. [emoji267]

Worthrj....Thanks for your review. New or experienced, I like to read everyone's reviews. It gives me an all around idea of how well a product works. If it works great for an experienced detailer, as well as, working great for a "new" detailer, then you know the product is good. Thanks for your review! :)

Kevin...

First, Robert thanks for coming over and giving me a hand. It was greatly appreciated! And yes, your opinion matters. Nice to see a honest "first impression".

This was your plain ol'e black paint job. The shine and gloss that is easily obtained from Essence was truly amazing!

IMHO there are two basic products - compound and polishes. Compound for paint correction and finishing polishing for clarity and gloss.
To be fair, we did not compound the vehicle first. We did the entire vehicle (1 step) with Essence (except the 10%). Kinda Kewl.

Truthfully, I feel these few areas should have been treated with a light compound first.
I understand that Essence is a finishing polish but I wanted to push it to its max.
I wouldn't try to do correction with Reflect but the majority of the vehicle was corrected with only using Essence.

There were a couple of smudges (about the size of a quarter) and they were a PITA to clean up. A light cleaning of Eraser didn't make a dent.
It took some elbow grease and a light compound to remove. I chalk this up to new product learning curve. This was my first time with Essence.

Agreed, as stated, I was hoping to get 3-5 vehicles from a SEMA sample size bottle.
I feel Essence was (for the most part) used sparingly except for the 10% areas where I really tried to get that "extra" to correct some light scratches.

Although it costs more than Reflect, the additional filling with tons of shine and gloss created a truly outstanding finish.

This was a repeat client's girlfriends vehicle. He stated to me that there are a couple of sections scratched up where she ran into bushes.
When he came to pick up the vehicle he stated they are completely gone! To me, this is pretty amazing from a "finishing" polish.
BTW - He was truly blown away with the clarity, sharpness, shine and gloss. It looked like a sparkling mirror!

Thank you for your kind words.

I've used MANY different compound and polishes over the years from rocks in a bottle to diminishing ultra-microscopic nano particles.
Some splatter, some are really dusty, some are like polishing with butter and some (to remain nameless) looked like it was snowing is south Florida!

As you stated, "I'm new. Really really new" but after a little coaching, I felt comfortable letting you loose on a client's vehicle that I am responsible for.
We used Carpro Essence, Rupes 21 (Mark I w/KB washer mod) with a Rupes 5" backing plate and Meguiar's DMC5 5" DA Microfiber Cutting Disc
Along with CP gloss pad to "kick it up a notch", there were a few additional compounding products, pads and machines used to tackle those 10% areas.

All in all I'm very impressed with the results of Essence. Although correction was pretty good, where Essence truly shines (pun intended) is in the gloss!

This is a must have for your detailing shelf if you want the gloss and shine to be "over the top". Sorry, no pics yet...it's still raining...

Corey,

I just placed an order for a bottle of Essence, now that you have available stock and I am excited to try it. Would I use this after Reflect or as a substitute for it before sealant application. Thanks!

It depends, if your using it as a finishing polish then you would use in place of Reflect in most cases. Having said that - we haven't tested with all the sealants and waxes out there so not sure of the bond. I do expect them to work great on it but no guarantee. Please keep us updated here with your results!

Thanks for the tests and reviews Merlin & Robert!! - Reflect has more abrasives in it than Essence so Essence is definitely not designed for removing scratches. Essence has the same abrasives as Reflect but less of them. Depending on how you use, the paint, and how you work it you may fill or remove more than one would expect but on a regular basis you shouldn't expect it to do more than solve compound haze, fine swirls, and holograms. If used over anything deeper you will find a lot of gloss but the deeper stuff will usually remain

If you use it with a microfiber cutting pad you will get a lot of cut (for a product with so few abrasives) on some paints but that's not what it's designed for and not what you will always get.

Corey, I think Merlin is best to comment on the results, but with the MF cutting pad, we were going through defects easily. The few parts of the car I did do I commented to Merlin on how fast product was working on the car. Then again, when we wiped off the essence we were scratching the paint, until we switched to the blue towel. Merlin could explain this better than I.

How would you recommend applying by hand for the most filling capabilities? I've been putting off applying CQuartz i had bought a month or so ago because i wasn't sure if i was ready to use the machine to polish my car. I have just light swirling mainly on the hood of my car and the rest of the car is in pretty good shape. This seems like it might be the perfect product to apply to fill and bond before Cquarts as im not looking for 100% perfection just more depth, gloss, and protection.

I wouldn't recommend using by hand if you want good prep and bonding of CQuartz, especially if no polishing step is being done.

Additionally if applied by hand and planning to coat over we recommend you wipe down with Eraser an hour after application and before coating because without a little heat from machine polishing it won't start the process of the Sio2 resin curing to the paint properly.

You can try but I would be neglectful if I told you this will be your magic bullet. I don't think it's going to prep your car enough. If you do try by hand with no other polishing do please share your results here with the notation that it's not recommended.

I have it on the way, along with some new microfiber finishing pads.

I have plans this weekend to use it on a 2015 Subaru WRX, so we'll be able to test a few pad combinations. Glad to hear that it performed well with a cutting pad.

I used the Megs MF cutting pads with the Rupes 21. It eliminated minor swirls and added lots of gloss and shine.
My suggestion would be if the you want that "extra" shine/gloss follow up with Carpro gloss Pads to "kick it up a notch".
The paint I tried it on over the weekend was soft and I used the MFM Crazy Pile towels to remove any extra residue.

@corey hey just wanted to know this can or cannot be applied with the scholl concept white spider pad? on a PC and at what speed would you recommend.

Thank you Merlin. I have the B&S MF cutting pads and Gloss Pads, and awaiting the B&S finishing MF pads. There are no real expectations by the client - just excited to be the first to try this out with me lol.

We'll play around.

I still haven't read anywhere whether any testing had been done with other machine/pad combinations. I've all but relegated my free-floating DAs to other duties and use the 3401 and Hybrids almost exclusively for correction and polishing. Anybody have any pad and process suggestions for this combo?

My question is, when doing two step corrections, should you use Eraser between compounding and finishing with Essence?

Eraser, but I mean do you still have to do a full wipedown before the compounding step and Essence?
