I deliberately kept this weekend open after moving some people around. My poor MKX! Paint chips galore, scratches, the works..you'd be hard pressed to know that this car belongs to a detailer. Especially one whose personalized plate says 'DETAILOR'. Time for the shoe makers kids to have some shoes, baby!!

There are no before shots per se, other than highlighting what issues I had to deal with.

The wheel barrels were cleaned with Megs WB. It's hard to see in there and I don't often bother with them, only when rotating them.
The WB was followed up with Zep Citrus to neutralize the acid.
The faces were cleaned with Zep Citrus and Megs HW and a wash mitt.
The tires were cleaned with Zep 505.
The wells cleaned with LATA.

The car was then washed with Megs HW.
It was then re-washed with IronX paste.

It was brought inside and clayed with my CarPro clay towel.

Now it was time to see the challenges:

First the chips:

Those were the biggest, but there was a ton of little ones too. Every one got filled.

Next came the scratches:

The paint was compounded with either my TB black wool + M105 for the tough areas, or a Megs mf + Rupes 21 + either M205 or 105 depending. Following that, the polishing was done with M205 + white B/S + Flex. I had ordered the Megs polishing pads and wanted to try them for my car, but Eric couldn't get them to me in time, so I used my sure-fire B/S's. The paint was then chemically cleaned by DG Squeaky Clean.

I tried the Fly-By Forte for the first time. Easy application I found. Looking forward to getting it wet. I put it on the windshield and driver's window. The remaining glass got Fly-By-30.

The wheels were double coated with CQF. The paint, head, tail lights and grille were all double coated with CQF. The trim, as well as the plastic fender wells were coated with DLux. The tires were shot via my air gun with Opti Bond @ 100%.

Here it is baking under my IR light, after it had warmed up my sandwich:

It had rained all day Saturday and all day Sunday. Here we are early Sunday evening with only inside shots to show:

And now more deserving of the personalized plate!! In all honesty, I don't think it's ever looked as good as it is now wearing CQF.

Thanks for looking. Comments appreciated.

I shouldn't have to tell you it looks amazing! But it does!

Great documentation and work Richy! Like I said in Zach's post, I wish I could justify those IR lamps.

Steve

Nice work Richy! I actually did the same thing this past weekend.

Beautiful Richy, just beautiful!!

Funny, must be the season; I just pulled a Finest kit for my car. It's on deck for a new coat this weekend or next...

And you didn't have to take the time to comment, but I appreciate you doing so. Thanks!

Beautiful. Such a classy yet sporty SUV.
Thanks kindly. I've been so happy with it I am going to replace it with the new version with the 2.7 EB and the Revel stereo probably in a year or 2.

Thanks Steve! For a guy just doing it on the side, I debated on getting it. My decision ultimately came down to that it does give the paint a better look so I just wanted to make sure my work looked as good as possible.

Hahaha...good for you!! With CQF too?

It must be indeed my friend. Can't wait to see the pics of that gorgeous Stang wearing CQF. I still love that cloud reflection shot of your hood!

Slacker!!!! What took you so long?? (oops, I'm in the same boat hehehehe!)

Great job (as usual) and thanks for making me feel bad about slacking

Hahaha...well, in fact I was supposed to do it a few weeks ago, but did this gorgeous F type Jag instead. This weekend it was all about my car. And it was about time! I'm sure yours is probably in better shape than mine was.

Man, I have so much to learn from you guys! Richy, I can fly into DTW pretty much any weekend. I'd love to be an intern doing some dirty work just to be able to watch your technique, especially cutting OP.

You'd be welcome any time. No guarantees against 2nd hand cigar smoke though, LOL. You could fly Porter into Windsor. The airport is 20 minutes from my house. Normally I just work weekends, but I've got 10 days off in June that I will only be doing cars during. PM me if you do want to.

Very cool offer, so kind of you Richy! Maybe I'll take you up on it, I'm sure it would be an incredible experience!

But if you bring any of those Fat Tires, it'll be a grand ole time!!
