Upcoming Holiday plans or traditions...

Good morning All,

Just sitting here, watching t.v., and the Holiday commercials are going full bore. Satelite radio has also started two Christmas music stations.

So, just wondering if you fine folks have any plans or traditions for the upcoming Holiday Season?

The wife and I venture into Pennsylvania for a huge Christmas/ Holiday gift show that takes place in the beginning of December. Then we head to Hershey to enjoy the sight and sounds of the season. Other than that, we will be staying home. I have enough seniority at work that I can be off. There was a stretch in which I had to work 5 Thanksgivings in a row, I work a 24 hour shift, and every third Christmas Day. Still thankful that I at least had a job though.

Steve

You are up in my neck of the woods. I live about 15 min. from Hershey and we enjoy going to Christmas Candy Lane. The kids really like all the lights and going on the rides. I think my wife usually goes to the craft show your talking about also, is it in Harrisburg?

Working 7am-3pm Thanksgiving, Christmas eve, and Christmas. Will probably just have dinner with the family and hang out at home.

Yes that is the show in Harrisburg. It has a lot of College sports stuff so I can find gifts for our friends.

Steve, what do you do working 24hr shifts?? FD or EMS??

Fire primarily but we do First Responder runs too. We use to do more EMS but Politicians for some odd reason changed that.

Health care by chance?

Also up by me! I live in NJ but I'm a senior at Shippensburg University in PA! What's in Harrisburg for the holidays?

Pennsylvania Christmas Gift and Craft Show. That may be the only thing in Harrisburg. Hershey and Lancaster are the places to go for the Holiday Season.

At that show in Harrisburg, they have a rail road club that has a giant set up of a town that is pretty amazing. I enjoy that alone. I forget the name of the club but what an effort that they put in.

I am looking forward to the holidays! Last year I was a barely functional zombie looking creature through the holiday time and spent every other second on my phone even while at the dinner trying to catch up. This year I am committed to focusing on family! Holidays happen to also be the time of year where everyone rushes around and pushes each other out of the way and the merchants work really hard for no profit to try to make everyone happy! My vote? Move Black Friday to a week BEFORE Thanksgiving for starters! (If I'm honest I say cancel it completely :)) But I know thats not a popular idea ;)

For us the holidays are also a question of which family to visit on which day... One is within 30 minutes and the other within 2 hours so both are close enough that we should visit. If we had children of our own we could of course force our families to come to us!! :) My nieces and nephews are sprouting up so fast, one of each is almost as tall as me. Really looking forward to seeing them. My holiday wish is everyone is making Turkey!! Last year I was cursed to ham by both families!

My family lives 3000+ miles from where I live, and my inlaws are about 20 minutes. I guess you guys know who will get to see me LOL!

My holiday plans will be the same as they have been for the past 20 years = work, work, work! Unfortunately in my line of business you have a certain legal term called "continuation of care" which prevents me from just rescheduling patients. I am lucky some years when the holiday falls close enough to the weekend to offer a 4 day weekend but.....

In South Louisiana the holidays are filled with FOOD and celebration. I am not sure if I could survive an extended vacation week to "celebrate" LOL!

Corey,
I would imagine having your own business is a 24/7 job. Black Friday, for me, means another day of College Football. We refuse to go to the stores anytime before 11 a.m. and certainly at NO TIME on Thanksgiving. IMHO, give folks a day to be with family, especially when it comes to retail. I know that some jobs have to be "open" regardless. BTW, we make both Turkey and Ham. If anything, our dogs don't mind.

Dr. Claude,
My in-laws are about a thousand miles away and my family 45 miles...same boat here.
As far as the menu where you are...I could only imagine the incredible cuisine!

I have absolutely no Thanksgiving. I will be working just like every other year. Christmas is one of the two times a year I get to see my family as they are about 1,000 miles from me.

We go around and check out the train gardens, chop down a tree, and this year we are bringing elf on the shelf to the mix
