DIY LED Work Light

Either send me some pics or post some when you get it all up and running. Looks awesome, and better than the Husky LED ones I have and was going to buy more of. :thumbsup:
 
Really appreciate this threat, Zac. My lights are on the way as we speak. The thing that I am most excited about is the lightness and maneuverability of these things. It's going to be a giant step from my old halogen spot lights.

I've spent a bit more time with these lately... still enjoying them compared to the halogens. They're much cooler and show defects better... especially on trickier colors where halogens seem to wash out the defects.

Lowes didn't have the bulbs the other night so trying again tonight.

Much sturdier of a stand than I expected at that price point. Can't wait to try it out. Thanks again Zach!

Glad you're enjoying the setup! I haven't even moved my halogens out of their cabinet since I got these LED's set up :)
 
This (in my opinion) is an absolute must!! The boom setup I shared was my second "best" light investment. I did try a 500LED light panel which makes for a very nice work light but not the best for inspection. I think the single focus light is the way to go. I am still investigating lighting options since I like a LOT of light, but so far the setup Zach posted is the BOMB (which works great with the BOOM sauce, lol!)

Yes I am enjoying them VERY much, thank you again! I agree my halogens are definitely a thing of the past...

This seems to be a fairly popular choice, however I prefer the single diode/tight cluster of lights compared to these "light board" style lights. The focused beam of light seems to have the edge in my experience.

Hey guys, does this setup allow you to see streaks on CQUK (not finest) and reload? If my car is white, is 5000k bulb the way to go? I heard 5500k or 6000k, which one is the best?
 
For coating and seeing that you removed all streaks point lighting is NOT what you want but rather really good bright ambient lighting. Point lights will wash out the streak making it even worse. 5500 or 6000 lighting around the garage will work best.
 
Yeah, I noticed that when applying [XYZ]. I have two eight-foot dual fluorescent fixtures but I'm finding this inadequate. I plan to rewire the garage before Xmas, move the eight-footers to the walls on a separate switch, and put six four-footers on the ceiling.

Hey corey, any suggestion for the lightning as you advice? I don't know how strong and how many it should have, and should it be combined with other lights? Can you provide me a link of a bulb you can recommend?

Or anyone who has experience of finding streaks/lighting installation (in detail for example at amazon)?

You want as bright of ambient light as possible... if you're indoors, you'll want as much overhead and side lighting as possible. I prefer to actually open my garage door to allow for even more ambient light inside. As soon as I have finished coating, I will pull the vehicle outside and inspect in daylight for any high spots or unevenness. It is much easier to correct these spots immediately after application instead of hours later.
